The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who appreciate the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like conventional biological terror, but within Together lies a profound examination about how we choose to love our partners.

A Directorial Debut Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot starts when Tim and Millie move from the big city to the rural area for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim discover an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the pair. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a methodically building fright fest, weaving in elements of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He dreads the notion of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in another person. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that arise in most partnerships a decade in. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory does not come across as hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, some couples who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the ending inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your partner and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu at present.
